Newsletter – September 17, 2021

Hello Members,

I hope everyone is well in these very challenging times. The days are getting warmer and a little longer and summer is not too far away!

I was very humbled at the 63rd Annual General Meeting to be elected as the next President of the Fairhaven SLSC.

I am delighted to be following in Darren’s footsteps. Darren’s exceptional leadership over the last five years has seen the club grow and strengthen across all areas. He has been supportive of ideas and innovation and encouraged many members to achieve their best which has been demonstrated through the number of finalists we see every year at LSV’s AoE.

A huge thank you to both Darren and Brig for their unwavering dedication and commitment to the Fairhaven SLSC…I know you are looking forward to some quieter beach days!

Surf Life Saving and Fairhaven is a big part of my life and has given me more than I have given. I do believe that we make a life by what we give.

I believe that we are custodians of this great movement and everything we do should be about respecting the past, implementing innovations and new ways of thinking and doing things to leave the organisation in a better place.

LSV Awards of Excellence

Congratulations to the following members nominated for their commitment and dedication during the past season. We are very proud of their achievements.

  • Sarah Cohen – Trainer of the Year
  • Eve Lardner – Assessor of the Year
  • Cam Miller – Youth Lifesaver of the Year
  • Alex Schwarz – Lifesaver of Year
  • Mark Scotland – Volunteer Year

The Upcoming Season…

We are planning for a season as normal, however planning for all scenarios is underway. Further updates on requal and patrols, training and assessment, nippers, sport and meals/bar will be provided as more information becomes available from LSV and SLSA.

Together with SLSA and LSV, Fairhaven support encouraging Australians to get vaccinated. Vaccinations save lives and this season we strongly encourage all members, who can and are eligible, to get Covid-19 vaccinations for the benefit of one another, those who visit our beach and the wider community.

All Fairhaven members are eligible to be vaccinated, as part of the Category 1B group. Getting vaccinated is just another way we save lives in our community, the same as using a rescue tube, paddling a board or crewing an IRB. For more information on how to get vaccinated please visit COVID-19 vaccines | Coronavirus Victoria.

There are always things happening so keep up to date on social media.

Committee and New Members

We have a sensational committee, and I am excited to be working with an amazing group of leaders to provide our core service of water safety plus the many other multiple opportunities to members of Fairhaven, and the broader local community.

I am grateful to Darren, Pam and Kirstin for making the transitions as smooth as possible and staying on as advisors for a few months.

We have been meeting on zoom and are looking forward to a face-to-face meeting as a new committee as soon as we can.

Membership Renewals

Thank-you for your support of Fairhaven SLSC in previous seasons. We hope to see you at the club again this year.

We are currently sending out membership renewals and they will be emailed to the primary member.

We recognise and respect that COVID has affected members and their families in many ways, financially and otherwise. Please feel free to contact Nicole Clarke [email protected] if you have extenuating circumstances.
