Newsletter – October 30, 2019

Dear Members,

Good to get some glimpses of the summer ahead at Spring Racing Carnival time!

Please see below a newsletter packed with information about forthcoming happenings at Fairhaven in preparation for Season 2019/2020.

Patrols commence in a month!

Skills Maintenance / Requalification

First opportunity to requalify this weekend in the gentle waters of Elwood!

All patrolling members need to requal prior to January 1 if they wish to patrol this season. We need you to requalify each and every year to help maintain the strength of our Active Membership base! Reminder: you can complete requal at any skills maintenance session around the state.

Fairhaven encourages the following opportunities to requal:

  • Elwood LSC – 3rd November at 1pm
  • Fairhaven SLSC – 17thNovember at 9am
  • Fairhaven SLSC – 14th December at 9am
  • Fairhaven SLSC – 28th December at 9am

Important: Members must complete the online theory and register for the requal they wish to attend via the following link:

Patrols – Season 2019/20

Patrols commence on Saturday the 30th of November this season, and we are grateful to all our dedicated Active members who keep our beach and community safe.

The FALCON Teams and 2019/20 Patrol Roster have been uploaded to the Fairhaven SLSC website under the ‘Patrols’ section. Also available is a Factsheet that once again explains the FALCON Program as well as the overall patrolling structure at the club for the upcoming season.

Go to:

The Lifesaving Operations Team will also shortly be releasing a form for those who would like to join one of the Patrol Teams as either a FALCON Member or alternatively as a general patrolling member. Keep an eye out for this and be sure to express your interest – the more the merrier!

If you have any further questions, or would simply like clarification on a patrol-related matter, please send Michael Henderson an email at [email protected].

We are looking forward to seeing you on the beach for another fantastic season of patrolling!

New Patrol Jackets

Particular thanks to all our FALCON Team members below who have made an extra commitment to attending ALL rostered patrols for the season.

Fairhaven SLSC APP

We are gradually updating all information and dates on the Fairhaven App.

This will be a central point for a lot of our communications to our members over the busy summer months as well as a big help to you!

If you don’t already have it on your Smart Phone, please download from App Store and check it out!

Assistance Required!

The Committee is seeking the assistance of a member with Project Management or construction skills and experience. As many would be aware, we are early in the planning process of a redevelopment of our Yarringa Rd bunkhouse facility.

We would love some assistance from a member external to the Committee to help us with this process.

Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] if you are interested in helping the club with this project.

Donation Board

The ravages of the sun and salt mean that the plastic/vinyl lettering recognising clubhouse donors on the forecourt glass needs to be removed. You may have noticed this was starting to deteriorate last summer.

We obviously remain appreciative of all our donors who helped make the Clubhouse building possible and as such, we are in the process of commissioning a permanent recognition board to be housed inside the clubhouse.

That project may not be completed prior to Xmas but the Committee thought it appropriate to let our members know that that is our plan.

MND Function

Fairhaven SLSC proudly hosted and supported Neale Daniher and Fight MND recently on the Daniher Drive initiative.

Day one of the 2019 Daniher Drive saw 85 cars and approximately 320 people converge on Fairhaven SLSC for lunch and drinks en route to their first night in Creswick.

Fairhaven member Ian Cohen has a big role in handling all media for the event and a great afternoon was had by all.

Gates Classic Fun Run Entries

The 2020 Gates Classic fun run to be held on Sunday 5th January is rapidly approaching.

Online entries are now open – it is a great event and we appreciate the support of all our members on the day.

Entry for a family member makes a perfect Xmas Gift!

Please go to to enter!

Surf Rescue Certificate Registrations Open

The Surf Rescue Certificate Program runs from the 27th December to the 4th January, around the same time as the Fairhaven Nipper program.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send an email to our Training and Assessment team at [email protected].

Post Xmas Bronze Program

The Post-Christmas Bronze Squad runs alongside our SRC program during the summer period following Christmas, around the same time as the Fairhaven Nipper program. The Bronze Medallion is for anyone aged 15 years+.

Please note this program does not operate as a Camp.

You do not have to have any previous lifesaving experience to join and we always encourage new members to get involved.

Candidate Info packs with greater course and payment detail will be sent out closer to the time.

In the meantime if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send an email to our Training and Assessment team at [email protected].

A link to registration can be found here.

Thanks for reading this far.

If you have any queries regarding the forthcoming season please don’t hesitate to contact our friendly Admin Coordinator – Nicole Clarke [email protected] / 0439 804 772. If she can’t answer your query, she will direct you to someone within the club who can!

See you at the beach soon!

Best wishes,

Darren West
