Newsletter – November 12, 2020

Dear Members,

We have been getting ready to get back to lifesaving and look forward to seeing you this summer.

Patrol Season officially starts in a bit over 2 weeks time! Wasn’t the AFL Grand Final only a couple of weeks ago?!

With COVID case numbers dropping dramatically, it is very much a moving target for us in trying to determine exactly what the season will look like and what programs we will be able to run.

We thank you for your patience and we are doing what we can to try to make the season as normal as possible.

We are committed to keeping all members of the club safe, and we thank you for your support and understanding in this.

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding lifesaving in this COVID-19 year.

More detailed information on specific activities such as patrols, training, nippers and sport and will follow as we get closer to the season.

What are our goals and guiding principles for this COVID-19 year?

  • To sustain our club and protect our people and the community, keeping safety and wellbeing at the forefront.
  • To be adaptable, positive, and understand that being COVIDSafe is everyone’s responsibility.

What does the return to lifesaving activities look like?

  • Club facilities and activities will operate in a modified capacity, based on our COVIDSafe plans, in line with the Victorian Government Roadmap.
  • Where necessary, exemptions for emergency services will be used for conducting essential activities, e.g. skills maintenance training.

What will our COVIDSafe Plans include?

  • Information about COVIDSafe Coordinators, contact tracing, and guides for signage, cleaning and PPE.
  • Detailed modifications for all activities, such as maximum group sizes.
  • Personal health declarations: Prior to participating in activities or attending a facility, members will need to complete the Personal Health Checklist and questions related to contact tracing will be asked at the Club.

Renewal of memberships is going well though a little down on last year. If you are yet to renew your membership – please do!

If you require assistance with the renewal process – please email Nicole Clarke: [email protected]g.

Nicole or our Membership Registrar – Vicki Redwood will be able to assist your query.

Thanks in advance of your support – membership is the lifeblood of sustaining our club activities!

Patrols commence on Saturday the 28th of November this season and the FALCON Teams and 2020/21 Patrol Roster have now been uploaded to the Fairhaven SLSC website under the ‘Patrols’ section – a Factsheet that explains the FALCON Program is also available here.

Patrols this season are, like many activities across the club, being adapted in line with LSV guidance as we work to deliver a COVIDSafe Lifesaving Service and more information will be produced for patrolling members in the lead up to the season.

One of the key initial changes is the approach to rostering for the period from Boxing Day to Australia Day, and if you have any further questions, or would simply like clarification on a patrol-related matter, please send Liam O’Callaghan an email at [email protected].

Tim Gates Classic Fun Run

Registrations opening very soon for our first ever Virtual Event!

Due to Covid-19, we expect ongoing mass gathering restrictions in Victoria into 2021, and so we are unable to safely plan for the running of our normal event.

Entry has been discounted, the very popular T shirts remain a part of the fun and our members still have the opportunity to support the Tim Gates Foundation financially, which directly benefits Fairhaven SLSC.

Previous Nipper families should have all received an email a couple of weeks ago detailing our Nipper program for this summer.

The program will be slightly modified but we are so excited to be able to have confirmation that we can proceed!

Bronze Camp / SRC

As most members are aware, we are unable to run Bronze Camp this season. Whilst disappointing, we are still finalising how our Bronze Medallion and SRC programs will look for this season. We will communicate details of these programs to you as soon as they are finalised.

LSV and a number of Fairhaven SLSC Members are supporting Movember this year and we ask that you do to!

It has obviously been a tough year for many and Movember fundraising has an emphasis on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Prostate Cancer and Testicular Cancer.
