Underpass News

Representatives from VicRoads, Surf Coast Shire, GORCC, Fairhaven SLSC and the local community met recently to discuss Underpass paint colour, landscaping and public lighting.

Re-painting in an agreed three-colour palette will hopefully be completed by the end of May and planting of mature Prickly Tea Trees will occur in front of the guard rail on the south side of the Great Ocean Road adjacent to the bus stop.

There is also the possibility of some planting along the north side of the Great Ocean Road in front of the railing.

Most of the lighting has already been replaced, providing improved results and a reduction in light spillage.

Fairhaven SLSC is grateful to all stakeholders for their input and work in achieving the best outcome possible for this valuable community asset.

Fairhaven’s Commitment to Child Safety

All children who come to Fairhaven SLSC have a right to feel and be safe. The welfare of the children in our care will always be our first priority. We aim to create a child safe and child friendly environment where children feel safe and have fun. We do this through ensuring we comply with the Child Safe Standards that all members have a current WWC and building preventative and protective actions into all our programs.

Life Saving Victoria (LSV) and affiliate clubs need to fully comply with the Child Safe Standards from 1 January 2017.

With assistance from LSV and SLSA, the Committee of Fairhaven SLSC has worked hard to implement and insure that our club is compliant in order that we provide a safe and supportive environment for children and young people, that focus’ on fun, education and building the confidence of our people through positive learning and development.

The club does this via developing and implementing:

  1. Strategies to embed an organisational culture of child safety, including through effective leadership arrangements
  2. A child safe policy or statement of commitment to child safety
  3. A code of conduct that establishes clear expectations for appropriate behaviour with children
  4. Screening, supervision, training and other human resources practices that reduce the risk of child abuse by new and existing personnel
  5. Processes for responding to and reporting suspected child abuse
  6. Strategies to identify and reduce or remove risks of child
  7. Strategies to promote the participation and empowerment of children abuse

Please contact our Child Safety Officers Sonya or Rebecca at [email protected] if you have any queries or suggestions.

Fairhaven SLSC AGM

The AGM for 2017 will be held on Sunday 13 August at Fairhaven SLSC at 10.30am.

All members are welcome to attend.

Fairhaven Sharks Water Polo

The Fairhaven Sharks Water Polo team made its debut a few weeks ago in the Mens State League Competition.

Lead by Guy Callaghan and Matt Chun, the team is largely made up of Nipper parents.

The team is performing well and on a steep learning curve of the intricacies of water polo!

Most importantly, they are representing Fairhaven SLSC, having fun and keeping fit in the off season.

If you have a background in swimming or water polo and would like to be involved, please email: [email protected] and I can pass your details on to Guy and Matt.

Best wishes for the off season, hopefully we will see many of you at the Winter Ball.
