I hope all the Haven members are enjoying some late Autumn sunshine in Victoria!
Hard to believe we are almost at the conclusion of May – we will be back with dates and events for next season in the blink of an eye!
Annual Report/Haven Distribution – Sustainability Initiative
As outlined in the recent Easter Haven, we are looking to reduce our impact on the environment and implement more sustainable methods across the Club. The first initiative is a review of the printing of the bi-annual Haven magazines and Annual Report. Printing and postage of these three reports for members requires a lot of paper and ink and also represents a considerable cost to the club.
To reduce the environmental impact and remove the need for printing, we will be providing all members with electronic (emailed) versions of these reports in the new financial year. The 2018/2019 Annual Report will be the first report to be distributed in this manner.
If however, you wish to continue to receive a printed copy of these reports and The Haven publication, please email Nicole Clarke – [email protected].
IRB Crew Camp
IRB Crew Camp was run early in May from Friday 3rd through to Sunday 5th.
In some testing Fairhaven surf, 8 candidates successfully achieved the IRB Crew award to continue to build the clubs IRB Capacity to support Patrols, Water Safety for Training and Carnivals, and IRB Racing.
A huge thanks to Julia Schwarcz, Jacqui Dreher, Alex Wright and Alex Schwarcz for putting the camp together.
IRB Carnival – Ocean Grove
Round 2 of the IRB Racing Season at Ocean Grove made for a super day despite the challenging conditions and unfortunate equipment malfunctions.
Whilst the competition was called off late in the day half way through the semi-finals, our Women’s A Crew is looking particularly dangerous at the moment with them qualifying for another Final, this time for the tube rescue event.
A huge thanks to Jacqui Dreher and James Carew for volunteering as first aid/official. We wouldn’t be able to race without them helping out.
Looking ahead we have a double header at Lorne with 2 competitions in 2 days on Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th May. This will be our last competition before the State titles so will look to build on previous performances and hopefully have a good couple of days racing. For anyone down the coast we would love to have blue and orange supporters come down to watch!
New Malibu Purchase
We are very excited at the arrival of 5 new foam training Malibu boards.
They are from Bennett Boards in Sydney and will make a great addition to the current 6 In Front foam mals.
There are 3 light blue and 2 green and they are numbered 1-5 and labelled Fairhaven SLSC.
Having access to such boards means that our U13-U15 and older (including parents!) can develop their board skills without as much concern for damaging a board, less chance of personal injury and less chance of injury to other swimmers if boards get away from us.
Please take care of these boards as they come at great expense. Keep them bottom faced up on the beach so they don’t bubble in the sun, wash them down after use, and store them in the racks marked foam mals.
We are very lucky to have the Tim Gates Foundation fund such a purchase. Thank you to all who support the Tim Gates Fun Run!!

Thanks to all our members and supporters.
We look forward to seeing you at the beach soon!
