Newsletter – June 2022

Hello Members,

Winter is fast approaching, and I know I am feeling the cold! There is still a lot of activity happening both at the club and in the background.

The Annual General Meeting of the Fairhaven SLSC will be held on Sunday 12 June, starting at 3pm at the Fairhaven SLSC. The agenda and minutes of the previous meeting will be emailed to members early next week.

We are looking forward to seeing many at the End of Season Extravaganza on Saturday 11 June from 5pm at the surf club. The event is open to all… members, friends, family, friends of friends… it’s shaping up to be an awesome night so grab your tickets today!

A Netflix series, Surviving Summer, was filmed on the surf coast last year, with many local families involved. The series is being released on Friday 3 June 5pm, for those who have Netflix. There are many recognisable locations in the trailer, and we look forward to seeing some amazing local talent on the screen!

U15 Leadership Development Camp

We recently had five U15 members Charlie Ablinger, Hugo Trigg, Lotti Ruegg, Millie Carr and Siena Mapley and one amazing leader, Celina Matlock attend the U15 Leadership Development camp that took place 29 April – 1 May at YMCA Anglesea. LSV have said it was the biggest attendance of 73 participants representing 37 clubs.

U15 Leadership Development Camp

A reflection from Siena…

On the weekend, of the 29th of April, I was chosen out of 5 other very passionate lifesavers from our club at Fairhaven to be a part of the U15 Development Camp weekend.

The two days consisted of: team building exercises, lifesaving scenarios and pathways (presented by the qualified leaders at the camp, who have gone through these pathways themselves), especially Celina who has gone through her own lifesaving pathway as a LSV educator, and many more insightful experiences that gained us a better understanding of not only ourselves as lifesavers but others around us. We were lucky enough to meet many people from different clubs, all around Victoria, who we got to know throughout the weekend.

I would like to say express a big thanks, to the club at Fairhaven and especially Mark Scotland, for providing me this opportunity to understand myself as an individual and grow myself as a lifesaver while I journey throughout different pathways. I would definitely recommend this camp, to anyone who is willing for a weekend, of challenge, life-long friendship, and long-lasting lifesaving tips, to jump on board and sign themselves up for this amazing weekend, you won’t regret it!
