Ladies Lunch Wrap

Our 4th Annual ladies Lunch was held last Saturday and was a fantastic day for all who attended.

Gabby Henderson and Irene Duggan both spoke beautifully and with passion about their respective journeys through the club.

A big thank you to Nancy Joseph and Tamsin Lawrence for their efforts in organisation as well as to Pia Maher for creating the superb menu that was enjoyed by all.

We want this event to be an annual for many years to come so please consider attending next year if you have not been before!

Active Members Survey

Our Lifesaving Ops and Training and assessment team have put together a survey for Active members to complete in an effort to try and improve our offering to members and the public.

It is really important to us that our patrolling members have the best training and patrolling opportunities, and have fun so that we can work together to effectively keep our beach safe.

Please take a minute to complete this short survey to provide us with valuable feedback in order for us to improve.

All responses are anonymous.

Lifesaving Operations & Patrol Gear

Recently the operations and training sub-committee held a patrol improvement night brainstorming at the Gym. A large range of topics were covered, and a number of plans for improvement were devised.

The first plan to be trialled is a system of stock checklists, which will launch over the next weeks. You’ll find a laminated tag attached to lots of different pieces of gear, with a list of the things you should check before taking them on patrol.

The first item to be check-listed is our patrol bum bags. Each bag will have a small laminated tag attached to them, listing the items that should be inside the bag. Before you take it on patrol, we want you to check the items against that list. If anything is missing, please re-stock it (in this case from the First Aid room). You don’t need permission from the patrol captain, please feel free to sort it out yourself.

If something can’t be fixed on patrol, we will have a “Broken” box under the patrol tower for you to place those things in and let one of the Lifesaving Ops/ Training and Assessment group know and we will get it fixed.

Just as a reminder, the stock that should be carried in every bum bag includes:

  • A pocket mask
  • 10 x gloves
  • A whistle
  • A note-pad and pencil
  • A space blanket
  • Gauze swabs
  • Bandaids
  • Water bottle

We expect that every member of the patrol wears a bum bag when they’re not swimming, and that the bags stock are checked every time they are taken on patrol.

Similar checklists will appear soon for all of our gear. Please let us know if you want a specific checklist made up.

Fairhaven SLSC Carnival / Ocean 6

Sunday 14th January

Thanks to all those members who pitched in to help us host the recent LSV/Ocean 6 surf carnival at Fairhaven beach.

The day was a great success for the club, showcasing it nationally and exhibiting the positive “all in” culture that we possess.

The Foxtel coverage looks superb and is currently showing on Fox Sports over the long weekend if you get a chance to have a look.

For those without Foxtel – we will try to play the footage on the display screens at the club shortly.

We had a lot of positive feedback from organisers and competitors alike.

Simon thanks for all you and your clubs support in hosting over the weekend mate. Really appreciate it. We spend time with quite a few clubs and you guys have a great culture. We’re really stoked with yesterday and have heard from so many athletes they had an epic weekend. Would certainly love to work with you guys if there’s an opportunity in the future.

Hi Darren,

On behalf of North Cronulla SLSC I would like to congratulate Fairhaven SLSC on a great Ocean6 series carnival.

As a club we have gone to all the rounds, both in Sydney and interstate over the last few years and Fairhaven has been the best. The organisation of craft and parking at a difficult location, the beach and conditions itself, the club facilities and the support and enthusiasm of the club members was great.

Your club has given North Cronulla SLSC something to aim for round 6 at our beach.

Hopefully, we will be back at Fairhaven next year.

On a disappointing note, a brand new portable Bluetooth speaker (which was used to play music around the BBQ area and the personal property of a member) went missing during the pack up period. If anyone picked this up mistakenly or knows anything about it, please email: [email protected]

Again, thanks to all for your efforts in helping to make the day a success for the Fairhaven SLSC. In particular, thanks to Simon Green for filling the role of overall Carnival convenor for the club.

With a super long weekend of hot weather predicted we hope to see you at the club at some stage over the weekend.

See you at the beach!

Best wishes,

Darren West
