The Fairhaven SLSC AGM was held on Sunday 19 August at the clubhouse. Approximately 40 members braved the cold, windy miserable Fairhaven weather to formally close the chapter on Season 2017-2018.
Member Jamie Burt summarised our Annual Report and awards were distributed across all areas of the club to include – Patrol Awards, Sports Awards, Training Awards as well as River Swim and Club Champs.
Congratulations to winning Patrol of the year – Patrol 4 and also to winner of President’s Award for club service – Fergus Orr.
One of the final items of the agenda was the election of Committee and Delegates for the forthcoming season.
There were a number of changes at Committee level and we are in the fortunate position to have had people put their hand up to fill these important roles for the club.
On behalf of the whole club, I would like to express gratitude and appreciation to all outgoing Committee members and Delegates.
In particular, I would like to acknowledge the long contributions of Dave Thompson and Mal Freake. Both are taking a break from Committee involvement and we are grateful for their passion and energy for Club activities over many years.

Registrations Open – U15 Summer Program – 2018/19 Season
Fairhaven SLSC is pleased to again be running our Summer U15 Program. This program plays a crucial role in providing a pathway for young members to transition from Nippers/SRC through to being Active Members in the future.
This program is aimed at those who completed the Surf Rescue Certificate last year, and aren’t quite yet old enough to participate in the Bronze medallion programs.
The program is an introduction of sorts into all things lifesaving at Fairhaven, as well as a range of other activities which in the past have included; mountain bike riding, surf sports, kayaking and more.
The program will run between Boxing Day and the 6th January, with exact session dates and times to be released closer to the summer period. Registrations can be completed by clicking this link here.
U15 Program Leaders Required!
We are seeking to put together a small team to work together as Program Leaders for this year’s U15 Program. These program leader’s will be able to have input into the program design and activities and will be essential in facilitating the program over summer.
The Program Leader role is designed to be a shared role so that the responsibilities can be shared between all involved.
Further details on the role can be found via the link here.
If you have any questions on the U15 program please feel free to get in touch with the Leadership Development Team at [email protected].
Life Saving Victoria – 18-25yo Mentor Program Applications for both Mentors and Mentees are open
Life Saving Victoria are again running a Mentor Program for 18-25 year olds. The aim of this program is to develop young leaders to face the challenges of current and future leadership roles with the support of a mentor and an enhanced lifesaving network, whilst also providing a platform to enhance their leadership credentials, build on their current skillset and motivate them to reach their leadership goals.
The Program will entail a formal mentor partnership between the Mentor and Mentee in addition to four face to face leadership developments workshop tailored specifically to the demographic.
This program is ideal for younger members aspiring to, or whom have recently taken on leadership roles in the club.
Additionally, LSV are seeking individuals interested in mentoring the next generation of leaders in lifesaving to apply for a mentor role in the program.
Further information on the program can be found via the LSV circular linked here.
Or feel free to send an email to [email protected].
Fairhaven SLSC Merchandise
After many years in a merchandise role at Fairhaven, Jo Bailey has decided to take a well-earned break. The club is very grateful to her for all her hard work over a long period.
We are well placed moving forward with the innovation of the Online store as well as the shop opening at the usual times over Summer.
If any members have an interest in fashion and design and wish to get involved with Charlie Carter and the merchandise team – please let me know!
