LSV Professional Development and Leadership Weekend – Sarah Burt

Sarah Burt

Recently I attended the Lifesaving Victoria Professional development and leadership weekend, held at our own Angahook camp in Aireys Inlet.

There were eighteen young people from varying bay and surf clubs across the state. It was a fantastic networking opportunity with the weekend heavily focused upon giving us a forum to discuss common issues and encouraging us to get to know those with similar levels of involvement within their own clubs.

Personally, I found the weekend to be a very valuable experience in terms of discussing aspects of Surf Lifesaving with those in a similar demographic to that of my own. The weekend emphasized the importance of forming affiliations with other clubs and nurtured a definite sense of community amongst even those clubs who tend to rival each other in competition.

All the candidates have stayed in contact since, with much discussion of clubs creating mutually beneficial relationships as well as being a helpful environment to discuss our common interests as well as the goals for our futures within and outside of Surf Life Saving.
