Newsletter – March 5, 2018

Dear Members,

As we move towards Autumn and the end of the lifesaving season, I wanted to express gratitude to all Fairhaven members for their contributions throughout the season to date. Whether as an Active member, a Nipper Parent or a BBQ cooker – we appreciate all of your support and effort over the course of the season.

Ongoing volunteer contributions keep our club positive and active!

60th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday 24th February saw us celebrate 60 years of community service at Fairhaven SLSC in fine style!

A great night was had by all of the 120+ members who attended. Big thanks to Fiona Freake for her efforts in organising the evening and also thanks to MC Marty Maher. Darcy Duggan made a touching and poignant speech about his long and legendary involvement at Fairhaven.

Great food, great company and some great dance moves from members young and old!!

Nipper State Titles Preview

We have another big team to send to States this year, with 94 Fairhaven Nippers competing at last weekends State Qualifying carnival at Lorne, some 70-80 of these will represent the club at Warnambool over the Labour Day weekend, on March 10/11.

There have been 7 Junior Carnivals during the season & a special thanks needs to go to Chloe & James, Simon Hirth, Scott Jordan & the Marshalls for all they have done to represent us at these events, as well as our AGMs & specialist coaches & of course our IRB boys Ed & Scott. It’s a long season, but I know most of you feel you get out about as much as you put in!

State Titles is always a very special weekend, with plenty of highs & lows, but no matter what, many happy memories are made.

One highlight is our club get together at the Big 4 caravan park on the Saturday night, with lots of kids & parents happy to have made it through Day 1 (the individual events) of competition. Pizzas, “refreshments”, karaoke, (that reminds me, someone, get onto the playlist!)… you get the picture I’m sure!

One of the best things about this years’ States team is the size, strength & enthusiasm of our U14 age group. It certainly bodes well for Senior Competition & future life savers of our club.

I look forward to reporting in on our States Campaign at Presentation night but in the meantime, I congratulate the families involved for the effort made to be part of the team. It’s been great having you along for the ride!

Best wishes to all and see you on the beach soon!
