Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club’s membership categories include:

Active Members (qualified to patrol/assist with water safety)

Active Members (Qualified to Patrol/Assist with Water Safety)

Active Members have access to a range of club services and facilities including:

  • Sunset Bar and Lounge
  • Social Functions
  • Lower Ground Area including club changing rooms/showers
  • May use some club equipment e.g. boards
  • Gym (ages 16+ or with adult supervision)
  • Sports and training sessions
  • Eligible to apply for nippers during registration dates (cadets)
  • Competitions e.g. surf carnivals
  • Training Programs: Bronze
  • Training Programs – Advanced awards: First Aid, ART, Spinal, IRB etc.
  • Bunk House facilities
  • Youth and Leadership programs
  • Pre-Christmas lifesaving camp
  • Communications e.g. The Haven, Newsletters, Facebook

SENIOR ACTIVE MEMBERS – aged 18 years and over, must hold the Surf Bronze Medallion (Public Safety and Aquatic Rescue) Award of SLSA. The award must be current (New or requalified). Active members are required to do a minimum of 16 hours of rostered patrol. The bronze medallion must be requalified (at a Skills Maintenance session) every 12 months.

JUNIOR ACTIVE MEMBERS – aged 15-17 years, and must be holders of the Surf Bronze Medallion (Public Safety and Aquatic Rescue). The award must be current (New or requalified). Active members are required to do a minimum of 16 hours of rostered patrol. The Bronze must be requalified (at a Skills Maintenance session) every 12 months).

CADET – aged 13-14 years and must be holders of the Surf Life Saving Certificates (SRC). The award must be current (New or requalified). The SRC must be requalified (at a Skills Maintenance session) every 12 months or until the holder has acquired the Bronze Medallion Award (which is also requalified annually).

AWARD MEMBERS – aged 18 years and over, and being a holder of SLSA certificates or Certificates accepted by LSV. Certificates may include: Surf Rescue Certificate, Radio award/s, Resuscitation Certificate, Advanced Resuscitation Certificate or First Aid Certificate (or equivalent). This award may also include current bronze medallion holders who do not wish to be rostered on patrols but are able to help on occasion and/or with water safety. Award Members may be called upon to perform patrol and/or other club obligations within the ability of their qualifications from time to time.

RESERVE ACTIVE MEMBERS – may be appointed by the Committee from Active Members who have completed 7 or more years of satisfactory patrol service as Club Members. Reserve Active Members shall be required to perform Patrol duties as specified by LSV. Reserve Active members must hold the Surf Bronze Medallion (Public Safety and Aquatic Rescue) Award of SLSA. The award must be current (requalified). The bronze medallion must be requalified (at a Skills Maintenance session) every 12 months.

LONG SERVICE MEMBERS – may be appointed by the Committee from Active Members or Reserve Active Members and shall have completed 10 or more years of satisfactory service as Club members. Long Service Members shall be exempt from Patrol duties at the sole pleasure of the Committee. Long Service members must hold the Surf Bronze Medallion (Public Safety and Aquatic Rescue) Award of SLSA. The award must be current (requalified). The bronze medallion must be requalified (at a Skills Maintenance session) every 12 months.

FAMILY/GENERAL MEMBERSHIP – This is restricted to TWO adult members (General Members) and their children aged between 5 and 17 years (by 30 September leading into the season) (Junior Members). Anyone purchasing a family membership please note that this does not guarantee Nippers enrolment. You must enrol for Nippers during the Nippers Registration Month (October) using your membership receipt number showing appropriate fee payment. Family Membership does not include U14 SRC course fee.

JUNIOR MEMBERS (Nippers) – aged 5 (by 30 September leading into the season) to 13 years. The prime function of these members is to learn the “do’s and don’ts” of the water and to familiarise themselves with the workings of the surf lifesaving movement. Membership is within the family/general category.

Family and/or Junior Members also have access to:

  • Lower Ground Area including club changing rooms/showers (adults 18 years and over must have a current WWCC)
  • May use some club equipment e.g. nipper boards
  • Eligible to apply for nippers during registration dates
  • Youth and Leadership programs

PAST ACTIVE – This member has held the Bronze Medallion and been an active patrolling member for a minimum of three years. This member has not requalified and no longer patrols.

LIFE MEMBERS – may be appointed by the Committee. Life members will have rendered distinguished and long services to the Club and its Members. See constitution for more information.

ASSOCIATE/SOCIAL MEMBERS – aged 18 years and over.
