This season the Youth and Leadership Development (Y&LD) team will be running the Participation Encouragement Program (PEP). It is aimed at 13-15 year old members as a way of increasing their activity within the Club and exposing them to all facets of Life Saving.
The program works on a progressive awards system to encourage continued involvement at Fairhaven SLSC. The program is structured in age groups. Each group has a different set of tasks to achieve during the season. Once all set activities are completed, participants are eligible for a reward as a token of appreciation from the Club. Through assigning set tasks to be complete in different areas of the Club we hope to expose participants to all aspects of volunteering at Fairhaven.
Set tasks to be achieved are age-group specific. Task have certain allocated people who are able to sign the task off (eg. Patrol Captain can sign off patrol hours).
The basic structure includes:
- a set number of patrol hours to be completed
- involvement in competitions (may be competing, acting as a marshal, helping to set up equipment etc),
- volunteering at club events (such as the nipper disco, annual door knock, river swim, luau, Tim Gates memorial run)
- providing water safety
Teamwork and the development of friendships is an important area for youth retention. To encourage this we are also offering an opportunity for participants to earn points as a team / age group. If groups are successful, they will be rewarded with an appropriate social event of their choice organised by the Y&LD team.
Task lists for age groups will be available to download and print from this page soon.
