Imogen and Jack are LSV "Building Leaders" scholars

Imogen and Jack - LSV "Building Leaders" scholars

Fairhaven SLSC young club members Imogen Dingle and Jack Lynch have won scholarships for Life Saving Victoria’s prestigious “Building Leaders” program.

They have already commenced the professional development and mentoring program which includes workshops, advanced leadership development and specialised training that will lead to a two-week trip to work with remote Sri Lankan communities.

Life Saving Victoria is dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders and believes that members 18-25 years of age hold the key to the growth of aquatic education and training.

Imogen and Jack were two of six in this year’s scholarship allocation.

Jack, a club champion, wrote in his application: Fairhaven has given me so much since my first season as a Nipper in 1991 (as a two year old). I have never missed a summer at the beach and have always wanted to contribute to the Club in ways differing from my competitive history.

Imogen, also a Nipper graduate and our Club Captain 2008-10 wrote: I would like to introduce a junior leadership program within my Club and focus my time there on developing our future leaders and creating programs to assist in youth retention.

Congratulations to Imogen and Jack. Our club is in good hands!

Diary Date 1: Club Championships Easter Saturday

Howard Hughes was our first Club Champion, back in 1964-65 season when we had just the one category.

Now, we have Senior, Junior, Cadet, Female/Male Over 40 and Female/Male Over 50 categories, all of which will be decided for this season on Easter Saturday.

All the necessary craft will be on the beach ready for what should be fierce competition for these prestigious Club honours. It is of course the last championship to be staged in front of our retiring clubhouse.

Events start at 1:30pm (one hour after high tide), so get there by 1pm to register.

This is an event for all members; championship events deserve a big contingent of spectators.

Dairy Date 2: Presentation Night Sunday June 10

All our lifesaving, sport, patrol and club awards will be presented at the Aireys Pub on Sunday, June 10, (Queen's Birthday long weekend).

Diary Date 3: AGM Sunday June10

Sunday, June 10 at 11 a.m. is the date and time for our Annual General Meeting.

Venue to be determined but will be on the coast.

Sad Note

On a sad note, the Fairhaven SLSC conveys its condolences to the family of Maroochydore SLSC’s Matthew Barclay who died during competition at the recent carnival on the Sunshine Coast.

Our thoughts too go to the members of our three club crews competing in the carnival.
